‘Hands on History’ set
Friends of Fendall Hall will sponsor a “Hands on History” program July 14-16, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Fendall Hall.
The program for ages 8 -14 will feature an exploration of art, architecture and archeology.
The program will be coordinated by Ashley Klages, Mitzi Yarbrough, Beth Shorter, Beth Cole, Deborah Casey, Bart Boyd and Carol Kleinhoff.
Admission is a $25 fee at registration. Limited space is available.

Sparks presents ‘Crazy Science’
Wallace College-Sparks Campus will hold “Crazy Science” Monday - Friday, from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Bevill Center.
The program, says Marcia Hudson of Wallace College Sparks campus, will be taught by AMMS science teacher Myra Hicks. The program is sponsored by Wallace College with materials provided by “All About Learning”.
During the program, participants in grades 1-5 will take part in activities like making their own carbonated beverage, making their own pencil erasers and their own gooey slime. For more information, contact Hudson at 687-3543.

Library to hold book sale
Eufaula Carnegie Library will hold a used book sale July 11-12.
The sale will be held Friday, June 11, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday, June 12, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The sale will offer books, videos and CDs.
Deakyne earns master’s degree
Charlene Kessler Deakyne of Eufaula was recognized among The University of Alabama in Huntsville degree recipients during spring commencement on Sunday, May 11, in the Von Braun Center arena.
Deakyne earned a master’s degree in computer science.

Eufaula student honored
Monique Robinson of Eufaula was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society June 17.
The induction ceremony was held at 5:30 p.m. in the seminar room of Wallace College Sparks campus Bevill Center.
Robinson’s family and friends attended the ceremony.

Ally Beaty was chosen to represent The Lakeside School at the 2008 session of Alabama Girls State held on the Troy University campus in Troy.
For one week, she became a citizen in an imaginary state, taking part in political life in her community, primarily through campaigning for and electing city, county and state offices.
She learned the operation of government by participating in party caucuses and through the election process.
Well known speakers and other state, county and city officials visited and enlightened the young participants of their civic responsibilities.
Ally was elected to the office of city council and the prestigious chair of the Nationalists Party.
Beaty will speak to other organizations about her experiences at the American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State. She is the daughter of Dan and Kim Beaty.
Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Alabama Girls State is a laboratory of practical government and personal application of duties, responsibilities and privileges of America.
