Beaulieu of America sent a press release to regional media outlets Tuesday stating that they were in need of employees for the Eufaula plant, which is located in the Eufaula Industrial Park.
According to the release, Beaulieu is adding an extra shift of spinners, twisters and cablers to its staff of 450 employees.
“That means one of the town’s biggest employers is getting a little bigger, thanks to increased demand for Beaulieu’s products, like the new Bliss by Beaulieu™ introduced this year,” a press release sent by the company states.
Company officials add that hiring will begin immediately.
In a Tribune article that appeared last year, a Beaulieu official stated that carpet manufacturers such as Beaulieu do not face significant overseas competition.
According to the company’s Web site, Beaulieu of America was established in 1978 as the first producer of polypropylene oriental rugs. As sales grew Beaulieu began yarn extrusion in 1981, becoming the first manufacturer in the carpet and rug industry to produce their own yarn.
Beaulieu diversified into tufting carpet in 1984, establishing a factory known as Beaulieu Commercial in Chatsworth, Ga.
In 1987, Beaulieu of America’s extrusion capacity was greatly increased with the addition of the Bridgeport facility. This modern facility gives Beaulieu the ability to produce nylon polymers and nylon yarns.
In 1990, Beaulieu continued its vertical integration with the addition of yet another new facility in Bridgeport for the extrusion of polypropylene staple fiber, polypropylene slit film and weaving of primary and secondary backing.
With the additions of Marglen Industries, Columbus Carpet Mills and Peerless Carpet Corporation, Beaulieu of America is now the No. 3 soft floor covering producer in the world.
In 2002, Beaulieu of America decided to concentrate strictly on broadloom carpet and sold its rugs and hard surfaces divisions.
This has allowed Beaulieu to focus its efforts on manufacturing high-quality, affordable broadloom carpet.
The yarn plant in Eufaula was built more than 40 years ago as part of Columbus Mills and was acquired by Beaulieu in 1998.
