Eufaula’s Cherry tapped Golden Eagle honoree

The Boy Scout of America’s Golden Eagle Dinner was recently held at the Eufaula Country Club with 140 people attending.
The event was chaired by Joel P. Smith, Jr. Smith earned his Eagle Scout award when he was a youth in Troop 11 in Eufaula.
The event gave people from Eufaula and Barbour County an opportunity to come together to hear about what Scouting is doing for the youth of our communities.
Scouting serves approximately 130 youth in Eufaula, Louisville, Clayton and greater Barbour County.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Golden Eagle Dinner Honoree.  This year’s honoree was Fred Cherry. 
Fred was the first Scout in the council to receive the Eagle rank when it was presented to him in 1937. Fred shared interesting stories of his Scouting experiences as a boy and the positive impact Scouting had on his life.
Anmarie Honan was honored as a James E. West Fellow for support of the local council endowment fund.
In addition to a community event to celebrate Scouting, individuals and companies were given an opportunity to pledge their financial support for Scouting here locally for this year.  The event raised $27,475
Those people who served in a leadership role for the dinner were: Rebecca Beasley, Roy Crow, Bobby Dixon, Mike Dixon, Sr., Mo Erkins, Jamie Goodson, Dr. John Hagood, Craig Harris, Lawrence Hatfield, Terry Honan, Billy Houston, Jay Jaxon, Scott Moore, Keith Phillips and Smith.

Gold Sponsors: Cooper Lighting, Equity Group, Bobby and Mary Dixon and Terry and Anmarie Honan
