Descendants of the Fenn, Taylor and Norton families gathered at The Point restaurant in Clayton Saturday, July 12, for a luncheon of fresh vegetables and Southern fried chicken.
Coordinators Janette and Gerald Johnson, with help from Mary Annis and Frank Fenn, said the previous two years they have met at Sam’s restaurant in Louisville and the event has always been well attended. This year they moved the luncheon to Clayton for a pleasant change.
She said 100-plus relatives were in attendance from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia and North Carolina. Mrs. Johnson, from Louisville, is a descendant of all three families.
One of the last living family members, Amelia Braham, a descendant of the Fenn family, graced the event.
Another senior member from the Taylor family, Frances Beasley of Louisville, was acknowledged as the most mature guest at the age of 93. She was accompanied by her son, Hubert Beasley.
Woody and Betty Cartes from Stafford, Va., represented all three families. Children David and Kim Cartes with grandchildren Nastasha and Kirstin from Tallahassee, Fla., were also present.
Al and Martha Becker of the Taylor family traveled the furtherest from New Jersey while Pattie Lisk, also of the Taylor family, traveled from Wilmington, Del. Ms. Lisk was with her mother, Katherine Taylor, of Eufaula.
Connie Sewell of the Norton family and Emmett and Gloria Taylor from Columbus, Ga., were present.
The Merrill Fenn family from Atlanta truly enjoyed the camaraderie.
Other guests who were direct descendants of the families being honored were Matthew and Nancy Fenn, Daniel and Barbara Ella Norto and George and Sally Taylor.
Ms. Johnson’s sister, Willera Fenn Baker from Montgomery and Clarice Emerson of the Fenn/Taylor clan from Montgomery’ were both happy to be in attendance.
Ms. Johnson explained that their ancestors could be traced back to fighting in the Civil War. Furthermore, she said that many of the descendants are from the lineage of George Washington Taylor and Sally Coggins Taylor.
The reunion was truly a success and enjoyed tremendously by everyone.
