Barbour County is going to grow – a lot.

At least that is what is projected according to data from the University of Alabama’s Center for Business and Economic Research. According to CBER, the population of Barbour County is expected to grow by 21.4 percent between now and 2025. If that occurs, then Barbour County will have more than 35,000 residents, compared to the 29,000 residents who currently call the county home.

CBER predicts that Barbour County will be among the fastest growing counties in the Wiregrass.

Why the potential growth? Thank the Baby Boomers.

CBER projects that will be a 77 percent increase of residents age 65 and older between now and 2025. Dale County is the only county with a higher projected rate of growth among seniors at 86 percent.

More information will appear in an upcoming edition of The Tribune.

What growth? In which part of Barbour County are you speaking of?  It certainly is not in Clayton! Clayton needs some decent businesses to help its growth.  Resturants would be a great idea, since there are only 3-4 decent places to eat in this city.
