Joseph Thompson, 42, of Eufaula, was charged with one count of rape first degree, a class “A” felony, according to a press release from the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department. He is being held in the Barbour County Jail without bond.
According to the release, the incident was reported to deputies soon after the alleged attack and the case was assigned to Chief Deputy Eddie Ingram and Deputy Sheriff Virgil Bowen to investigate.
“We started our investigation immediately after the incident was reported and were able to make an arrest today,” Sheriff Leroy Upshaw said.
The sheriff’s department is being assisted in the investigation by DHR.
The victim’s age, relationship or identity were not released “due to a pending investigation and the possibility that more charges will likely be filed against Thompson.”
“All I can say at this time is that we do anticipate additional charges and that Thompson is cooperating with us,” Upshaw said.
