The Barbour County Humane Society will present “Beauties and the Beasts” Saturday from 9 - 11 a.m. at the Humane Society shelter weather permitting.
The event will include several local pageant queens. The queens are collecting donations for the shelter including dog and cat food, cat litter and other items.
The girls will also help play with and exercise the animals Saturday.
Amy Lockard, director of the local forestry pageant, came up with the idea of allowing pageant queens to help out at the shelter as a community service project.
“Twelve girls are participating as a community service project,” said Lockard. “Several of the girls are local forestry queens. We are collecting pet food, litter … to take out to the shelter and we are going to help play with the animals.”
Pageant queens participating in the event include:
McKenzie Holley - Petite Miss Greater Eufaula Forestry
Madison McCullough - Petite Miss Barbour County Forestry
Brittany Lynn - Junior Miss Alabama Forestry
Morgan Self - Junior Miss Relay for Life
Emily Edwards - Tiny Miss Barbour County Forestry
Sarah-Grace Lockard - Petite Miss Wiregrass
Brooke Mitchell - Tiny Miss Greater Eufaula Forestry
Kaitlyn Hudson - Teen Miss Barbour County
Alyssa Hudson - Relay for Life Sponsorship Queen
Katelyn Richard - Little Miss Alabama Cotton
Shelby Tyler - Junior Miss Pike County Forestry
