The clock is ticking.

With less than a week before their season-opening meet, the WaveRunners are trying to make up for lost time.

First-year head coach Jamie Hahn took over the program June 9 after former head coach Robby Dellinger left Eufaula to accept the same position with the Troy Tiger Sharks. The transition already forced the WaveRunners to miss a tri-meet with district rivals Troy and Andalusia June 5.

“The biggest challenge is getting everyone back in shape (to compete),” Hahn said. “With the transition period between Robby and me there was a lapse of time with the kids not being in the pool. … All the swimmers need t o get their endurance back up.”

It’s still early, but Hahn likes what he’s seen from his team so far.

“The team looks strong,” he said. “I have some (swimmers that have competed in the Southeastern Championship) on the team and the younger swimmers are showing promise.”

At this point in the season, Hahn and the WaveRunners are focusing primarily on technique.

“In swimming, doing the strokes right is more important than anything else,” Hahn said. “Right now, the kids are working a lot on drills and technique.”

The WaveRunners will square off with Troy and Andalusia June 26 at the Troy SportsPlex.

Other tentatively scheduled meets include the Water World Classic in Dothan June 27-29, the District 6 meet in Troy July 12 and the Alabama Recreation and Parks state championship meet July 25-26.

Team members include Annie Clayton, Daniel Clayton, Blakely Clements, Brandon Clements, Lexie Gibson, Will Gibson, Tucker Johnston, Morgan Johnston, Alex Johnston, Brooke Mitchell, Jackson Mitchell, Daniel Moshell, Emily Moshell, Emily Munn, Melissa Munn, Thomas Shack, Jonah Shorter, Brady Stokes, Emily Sullivan, Josh Tyler, Shelby Tyler and Sydnie Wachs.
