Tigers fifth in ASWA poll
Following a couple of upsets last Friday, the Wiregrass area took a hit in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association state poll.
Lady Tigers down Northview
It wasn’t a relaxing walk in the park, but it was close. Eufaula strolled to a 3-0 win against Class 6A Northview Tuesday in Dothan.

Tigers top Trojans
Eufaula freshman Maurice Crews rushed for a pair of touchdowns to help power the Eufaula ninth-grade football team to a 21-6 win against Charles Henderson Monday night at Tiger Stadium. With the win, the Tigers improved to 4-0 on the season.

Tradition gives Tigers edge
No. 8 Eufaula got off to a rocky start Friday night before it rebounded to score a 24-13 win against Beauregard. On the game’s opening possession, Beauregard methodically marched from its own 25-yard line to the Tigers’ 31-yard line before eventually turning the ball over on downs. While the Tigers (3-1, 2-1 Class 5A, Region 2) managed to keep the Hornets (3-1, 2-1 Class 5A, Region 2) out of the end zone, momentum was clearly on the side of the Hornets.
Newton paces Tiger runners
Eufaula’s Steven Newton finished 43rd Saturday at the Smiths Station Panther Invitational cross country meet.
Wacoochee sinks Admirals
Admiral Moorer Middle School found itself playing two opponents Thursday night – Wacoochee Junior High School and the clock. After falling behind 14-0 in the first half, the Admirals (0-4) mounted a comeback and outscored the Panthers 12-7 in the second half, but ran out of time as Wacoochee held on for a 21-12 victory.

Coosa Valley spoiled Dixie’s homecoming celebration.
Jaguars blank Lions
Houston County scored one of the most improbable comeback wins in Alabama High School Athletic Association history last week when it rallied from a 43-16 fourth-quarter deficit to score a 52-50 win against Cottonwood. The magic ran out for the Lions Friday night.
Edgewood shuts out Chiefs
Lakeside may not have scored a victory on the scoreboard Friday night, but it did score a moral victory. The Chiefs (1-3, 0-3 Class AA, Region 1) were shutout 48-0 by No. 3 Edgewood at Reeves Field, but despite the lopsided score, Lakeside gave a much better effort than in its previous losses to Shelby and Lowndes.

No. 3 Edgewood defeated Lakeside 48-0 Friday night at Reeves Field. More information on the game will appear in Tuesday’s edition of the Eufaula Tribune.

Derrick Porter’s name doesn’t pop up on recruiting sites. At 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds, he doesn’t really stand out in a crowd either. That being said, he’s got No. 8 Eufaula’s full attention.

Chiefs face tough test
Lakeside didn’t spend too much time dwelling on its 42-6 loss to Lowndes Friday night. There was no time. With No. 3 Edgewood set to come to town, the Chiefs had plenty of work to do.

Chiefs’ offensive woes continue
For the second straight week, Lakeside’s offense sputtered in a blowout loss. In a 43-6 loss to Shelby Sept. 5, the Chiefs managed just 40 yards of total offense. Things didn’t get any better Friday.

ELBA – Elba showed Friday night why it is the top team in Class 2A, Region 2.
Tallassee upsets Tigers
TALLASSEE – The effort was there. The execution wasn’t. As a result, top-ranked Eufaula was stunned Friday at Tallassee, losing 20-17 in a Class 5A, Region 2 game. It was the second significant upset the last two weeks in Class 5A football. One weekend earlier second-ranked Briarwood lost by 23 points to Shelby County.

Lowndes routs Lakeside
Friday night Lowndes set the game of football back more than 100 years. In an era dominated by spread offenses that sling the ball all over the field, the forward pass was all but absent from the Rebels’ offense, which still managed to rack up 362 yards of total offense en route to a 42-6 win against Lakeside.
Tallassee upsets Eufaula
Hunter Mullins hit a 33-yard field goal as time expired to propel Tallassee to a 20-17 upset of No. 1 Eufaula.
